Review: "These are dark times, There is no denying." is the first line of this film. Indeed they are. It's the beginning of the end for Harry Potter and they are sad times. I was extremely excited to see this movie, as the book is my favourite from the series. It was not disappointing. It exceeded my expectations really. For the last 6 films, Harry, Ron and Hermione have been fighting the Dark Lord Voldermort from the safety of Hogwarts school and under the protection of Albus Dumbledore. Now they are without both, which makes it seem more tense and more dangerous. With this being the final, JK Rowling must have thought, all bets are off. There are many deaths in the book and a few of them have already happened in Part 1. The one that probably stands out most is Dobby the House-Elf. It's unbelievable how emotional that scene was. I had tears and my cousin was actually crying, as was alot of the other audience members. The film had a dark feel to it especially the scenes with Voldermort and his Death Eaters. One particular scene is a meeting of the Death Eaters, in which Voldermort murders a Hogwarts teacher in front of everyone. It is also quite painful seeing Snape on the bad side. One thing the film lacked. His witty normal self at Hogwarts. In fact, He was only in 1 or 2 scenes in the entire film, but that will change in Part 2.

I've already mentioned the film had a dark feel to it, but comedy was a big part also. Rupert Grint delivers his lines perfectly, it's like they were written for him! He plays Ron how I imagined in my head. In fact, the majority of the cast are perfect for their roles, especially Julie Walters as Molly Weasley. One scene that the audience could not stop laughing at was the awkward dance scene between Harry and Hermione. Although not in the book, it was a brilliant scene and brought the usual brightness of the Harry Potter films back which was nice to see. While talking about the book, I was surprised how closely they stuck to it. One or two differences but mainly sticking to the book which I imagine is a hard thing to do really. The action scenes in the film were superbly done, notably the first chase scene when the 7 Harry's leave Privet Drive and the final chase scene through the words. Beautiful shot. Also, another thing about this film is, it was intended to be released in 3D but wasn't because it wasn't completed in time. You can tell which scenes were specifically done for 3D (especially the snake scene)and it looked a bit flat. I'm glad it wasn't released in 3D actually. It doesn't need it.

Overall this film was brilliant. It lived up to the hype and I just can't wait for 15th July 2011.

I expect Part 2 of the Deathly Hallows will be even bigger than this one was. In that film, The Battle of Hogwarts will take place which is my favourite chapter of the entire Harry Potter series. If they do that perfectly I will be ecstatic. It's such a brilliant scene and the bits I've scene from the trailer, they look promising.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is a bloody brilliant film, and you should go see it, unless you haven't seen any other the films, even if you've just missed one. Watch them all to get the full experience. It's so worth it I promise you.

What did you think of the film?
