The 2010-2011 TV Season - Out with the Old, In with the New for Glee

Oh god. I feel tears coming. But it''s the right thing to do creatively.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has said that the current cast of kids will be leaving the show by 2012 as the will be graduating High School!

It's such a shame but it makes sense. You can't just keep these characters in school for the rest of their lives to sing in Glee club with Mr Schu. Actors Cory Monteith and Mark Salling are in their late 20's and soon won't pass for school teenagers!

Murphy has said: "Every year we’re going to populate a new group. There's nothing more depressing than a high schooler with a bald spot. I think you have to be true to the fact that here is a group of people who come and go in these teachers' lives – they graduate and they're gone. When some of them finish their run at high school it will be very teary episodes. For me it will be particularly tough but a new crop of actors will come in. I was concerned about that whether to have characters graduate and leave the show because those kids caught on so quickly – but I think one of the things I'm very happy we’ve been able to do this years is we’ve brought in new characters. I think if you can keep regenerating – and I didn’t think we could – I didn’t know if people would want those characters like Sam (Chord Overstreet) but they do."

As he mentioned new character Sam joined the Glee club this year and is apparently the start of the new generation.

I'm thinking of it like Skins! They change their cast every 2 years and it's worked out well so far! Not for some people, but the majority seemed to like the new characters. Hopefully the same will happen with Glee and maybe they could even keep some of them around as teachers?

How do you feel about this? What happens to your favourite characters when the graduate high school?
