The 2010-2011 TV Season - The Event ain't no FlashForward

If you watched both ABC's FlashForward from the 2009-2010 TV Season and NBC's The Event from this season, then you'll know both heavily featured flashbacks as part of the story that were usually criticized because they became to confusing.

While FlashForward was cancelled after 1 season, the bosses at The Event are trying to avoid a similar fate. The show is currently off the air, undergoing changes to bring in more viewers and make the show more accessible. And they've decided to cut out the flashbacks!

Blair Underwood, who plays The President of America in the show has confirmed that there will be no more flashbacks when the show returns at the end of February. Talking to Entertainment Weekly he said:

"We had been jumping around a lot and doing flashbacks and that was confusing to people," the actor said. "So when we come back, that device is done with! We are now telling the story straight through so people can track it and follow it easier. Changes in format will "make the show easier... to watch without losing quality.
"I am proud of our show... but I know we are living in a time where people multi-task while watching television. Our show takes commitment and that will be our struggle."
"The initial ten episodes were "setting the stage" for events to come. People have the background they need. We know the others are coming and they are going to have some effect on the aliens who have been living among us."

I personally have been enjoying The Event and it certainly got better as got further into the series. I hope these changes secure the show another year because not enough shows get long enough to find their feet. Some do it straight away and that's great, but other's need time to grow and evolve and the networks don't give them that time. The Event returns to NBC with a double bill on 28th February.

What do you think of this? Will it make the show easier to watch?
